Lazy puppy… November 30, 2007

I’m convinced we got the laziest dog that ever lived.  Or else she’s sick.  I hope not.  I just carried her from the bedroom to the kitchen so that she would get up to go outside.

She slept almost all day, off and on.  More tomorrow.

My hubby is begging me to come to bed to watch a movie.  Yeah, right.  He’ll be sawing logs in about 15 minutes.

Home Sweet Home… November 29, 2007

Well, Rosie is home.   She tried to drive the car part of the way and sat in younger son’s car seat part of the way.  Otherwise, she curled up on the front seat and just relaxed.

As soon as she was home, hubby introduced himself and told her it was going to be o.k. and gave her a little kiss on the top of the head.  About 15 minutes later I caught him trying to coax her into the basement with him.

She has eaten, laid in her basket bed, eaten, gone for a walk, checked out her territory, laid in her basket bed, dozed and sniffed a cat.  Now she is asleep in her basket bed in our bedroom with hubby (hubby’s suggestion that we move it in there for the night–what a pushover).

We go pick up Rosie–name to be changed eventually (I hope!)–tomorrow.

I have a little wicker dog bed for her, courtesy of my niece.  She is getting micro-chipped today, courtesy of my sister.  I have the money to pay for her, courtesy of my husband.  She has a new tie-out, collar, dog food and treats, courtesy of me.

She will have many excited hugs, kisses and pats, courtesy of my boys…and me!

And….go face it honey, you too.

My little Rosie Posey… November 20, 2007

We went to see Rosie at the animal shelter last night.  I wanted to see how she would do with the boys up close and personal.  She really is a sweetie.  She loves the cats, she kept rolling over onto her back to have her belly rubbed, even though she was just spayed a few days ago, and she was even rolling over for the cats.

I have filled out the application so she can come home with us.  The boys were really sad that we had to leave her there.  They will run a background check on me so that they are sure I haven’t had any animal cruelty charges against me.  The guy there last night said that it may take a week or possibly two with the holiday and deer hunting before I am approved and can bring her home.

Oh, did I forget to mention that hubby has relented and actually seems kind of excited about it too, even though he keeps saying, “We haven’t made any definite decisions yet.”?Who does he think he’s kidding?  The boys love her, I love her, she seems to love us and will love our cats.  She’s ours.  I just have to get a couple of things ready for her before we can bring her home.

For one, that name has got to go.  I just don’t think I can have a dog with a name like Rosie.  She doesn’t seem to respond to it too well anyway.  It’s like it takes her a minute to realize you are talking to her and then she comes over all wiggly.

I think it should definitely end in an “e” sound though, so it’s not too dramatically different.  Any suggestions?

Working it out… November 19, 2007

It was kind of dirty pool for me to post our dirty laundry about the dog on here.  But it worked, because at least hubby was willing to discuss it.

It was a rotten trick of me to post her pictures.  Even though he pretends to be a hard ass, he’s really mushy on the inside.  He kind of relented after reading the post, although he’s mad at me for making him the bad guy in public–and rightly so.  He’s a good guy, he’s just hard headed at times.

So we have agreed.  The kitty with kidney failure has got to go to the vet.  She’s spending most of her time in the basement sleeping, so it’s hard to know how much she’s really suffering.  I should have taken her in a long time ago, but it hurts so much to do the right thing sometimes.  I have had Pandora a long time and she’s a very old kitty.  She’s had a good life, but if you saw her you would be telling me, “Shame on you for letting it go this long”.

I’m not going to run right out and get Rosie (I am going to have to transition her to another name).  I’m am going to work out the logistics first and then we’ll see.  First, I am taking the boys to see her and make sure she is going to be o.k. with them.  They say she’s good with kids, but I want to see how she behaves around my kids.  Last time there was a Blue Tick Coon Hound mix in the enclosure and I didn’t want to risk taking the boys in there with a bigger dog loose, not knowing what that dog would do.

So I need to get a better look at her and be able to interact with her before we make any decision about her.  But then we’ll see.

So I found this little dog at the local humane society and hubby is being completely unreasonable about not allowing us to get another dog.  She is cute as a little bug’s ear.

I have offered to take over all the cat duties but he is telling me the only way is for me to have two of our cats put to sleep.  One is very ill and I probably should have her put down, but the other two are completely healthy (more or less) and the only reason that hubby put this stipulation on it, is because he knows there is no way I would ever put down a healthy animal (that I love, mind you) to take in another one.

Rosie is spayed, has all her shots, she’s a she, she has short hair and she only weighs 30lbs.  She stands about knee high.  She is a bassett mix.  They say she is really affectionate, good with kids, cats and other dogs.  All of the above were the criteria that we talked about when it would be time to get another dog.

Here are some pictures of her:

Isn’t she just about the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?  Look at those blue eyes.  She has the face of my beloved Toby (from when I was a child) and the coloring and blue eyes of my little Tundra buns, who died in February.

I told him she is all I want for Christmas.  He still says, “Absolutely not!”  He threatened divorce if I came home with another animal from the shelter.

I have had a dog my whole life.  I have never been without one, except when I was living in the dorms in undergrad, and then I had my mom’s dog back home, after Toby passed.

Don’t you think he is being completely unreasonable?
