The doves are gone… June 18, 2008

trackback

I guess the young ones finally had the strength to fly further.  I see no sign of them this morning, except for all the poop they left behind on my rail.  Who knew?!

Well, it was fun while it lasted.  I guess I will just have to go back to bear watching and chipmunk watching.  I’ll have to post about the bear we had in our yard a couple of weeks back. later.

I have tons of doves in my neighborhood. Once I counted 27 sitting in a tree behind our house. They are suppose to be good luck. hmmm. They are ground feeders but they hang around on my deck railing too. They hang out under my bird feeder and clean up what the other birds knock to the ground. I’ve also seen them eat bird food off the deck which I’ve spilled. They definitely like to sun themselves sitting up high- no cat worries ect.
I have screech owls (3) that visit all most every night at dusk. Man are they cute, and not shy. They too like to sit on the deck railing. Perfect vantage point for them to hunt.

Carla,
They were back for a while this afternoon. At least I don’t have to worry about them getting munched by something. Obviously, they can fly. Thanks for the insight on what they eat. Maybe I will put out some regular bird seed for the mama.

Damn – I found a great recipe for grilled Dove tonight – little bbq sauce and we were set!

I once had a nest right outside my bedroom window and got to listen to a nestful of babies for what seemed like forever. But, once they were gone and I was left with nothing but the poop, it sure seemed strangely quiet.

Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier. I’ve enjoyed my visit here and I love your header and the wolf image.

Mr.-WHAT ever!

CJHill-Thanks for visiting here as well. Sorry I haven’t been around for a while. What a cool experience to have a nest of babies outside your bedroom window. I bet you were getting up early though!
