Bill Maher is a blithering moron…and his little dog too! September 16, 2007

I am so fired up right now! I have a new celebrity that if I ever meet him in person, I will just walk up to him and punch him in the face (Tom Cruise is the other…don’t get me started on that idiot!). I don’t get passionate about a lot of things (yeah, right!) but this really torks me off.
I was just over on Suburban Oblivion’s Blog and read her article about what this nutjob said. I am just going to leave it to you to read, since she just did such a nice job of summarizing it and also has the links to the YouTube thing on her site. I’m too tired tonight to go on and on about it. If you want to know what I really think, you can read my comments to “his little dog”, Jennifer (someone who dares to call herself a female or maybe she is one of those men who have a woman’s name) on the post over there.
G’Night!

I’ll just speak to you through the letterbox today Mrs F, in case you’re throwing things!
This issue seems to have different rules all over the world, it’s not readily accepted in the UK but many big stores have feeding areas.
I listened to a very interesting radio discussion the other day about wet nursing which was very popular some years ago before A.I.D.S it was reckoned! I would have thought that there have always been diseases to be concerned about particularly consumption and TB etc.
How would you feel about ’someone else’ breast feeding your child?
Thanks so much for covering this! I swear I about came out of my chair when I heard that bit the other night! I have lost a lot of respect for Bill Maher over this! Be sure to stop back by, very interesting discussion going on in the comments!
Oh, and walkfarwoman- I personally wouldn’t have my kids with a wetnurse, but I would use donor milk and would and have donated directly to someone else.

WFW-My mom actually nursed some other women’s babies in the hospital when she had my younger brother (1974). They were preemies and the moms’ milk hadn’t come in yet. My mom was producing so much, she fed my brother and two other babies. I think it was very progressive of the hospital to realize that the breast milk was what those preemies needed. It’s very unfortunate that communicable diseases have made this practice uncommon (although, as Sara-S.O.- points out, there are donor milk programs).
I would use donor milk that was screened if it was practical (we don’t have local access to a program around here–but programs are spreading). The milk is screened for diseases. I think it’s an excellent alternative for woman who can’t breast feed for medical reasons, etc.
Sara-You aren’t kidding about the discussion over there. Sheesh! What a debate! Thank you for posting about the show and the topic. He’s just a ridiculous neanderthal.
Ignorant. Hateful. Degrading. Not a humorous “bit” whatsoever. My gawsh, I think it’s safe to assume he was NOT breastfed as a baby.
The only people who should feel uncomfortable around a woman nursing in public is like a 12-14 year old boy. Other than that, I just don’t want to hear about it!
I have never been a fan of Bill Maher, but I’ll never tune in again. He’s just STUPID!
Right on Bella! I can understand people feeling uncomfortable, but what makes more sense? A baby going hungry to prevent an adult feeling a little uncomfortable or an adult simply turning their head and looking the other way? I mean, really! Grow up Bill Maher! and anyone else who has a problem with it!
Oh yeah, and nothing like seriously torquing off most of half of your potential viewing audience and probably some fathers of breast fed babies too! His writers should have done their research on this one.
I have an award for you – http://atyourservie.blogspot.com/2007/09/thank-you-tammy-from-mom-knows.html

I thought I had already left a comment here, but I think I followed the link and left one over there instead. Anyway, I’m back and I have this to say.
I listened to what Bill Maher had to say. In my opinion it seemed like a pathetic, and wholly unintelligent attempt at stirring controversy. Seriously. I could care less what he has to say–meaning that whole ‘words can’t hurt me’ point of view. But my gawd! Not only was he ‘not’ funny, but he was incredibly lame. All I felt for the man was pity.
Sandy-Thanks!
Stacy-I know. He is pathetic, isn’t he? Funny that he tries to come off indignant and offended by the sight of a woman breastfeeding. God forbid it be forced upon the unsuspecting public. The irony is, he is doing the same thing throughout his segment by having a HUGE picture of a boob with a baby attached, showing quite a bit more than anything anybody would have EVER been able to see when I breast fed in public. I suppose his answer would be, “Well, if you don’t want to see it, you can always turn the channel.” Which is exactly what everyone who doesn’t want to “see it” should do when a woman is breast feeding her child in public. Turn their head, for the love of God. Not piss and moan and whine about having to “see IT”.
As for the pity, you are too kind. I say, go Clockwork Orange on his ass. Strap him to a chair tape his eyeballs open and parade thousands of breastfeeding mothers in front of him until he realizes what an ass he is.
“strap him to a chair, tape his eyeballs open and parade thousands of breastfeeding mothers in front of him until he realizes what an ass he is” – BAHAHAHAHAH! Awesome idea! Totally awesome! I no longer breasfeed, but I want to be included
I think it might make him a better person. Hey, you’re invited!
