My new favorite author…Stephenie Meyer September 11, 2007

I recently read a series of books that I could not put down.  I’m a little embarassed that, as it turns out, these books are considered to be in the “young adult” genre.

But then I decided, who cares!?

They are the best books I’ve read in a while.  I literally did not want to put them down.  I borrowed the first one from my Little Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters.  She had read it and wanted me to read it and tell her what I thought.  I guess that should have been a clue as to the genre, but this girl reads Anne Rice, so why would I suspect?

The author is Mormon, so I thought, “Well, this ought to be interesting.  A vampire story written by a Mormon….Wonder how that fits into her religion?”

Well, the books are clean for one…extremely unusual for “vampire” novels.  And believe it or not, there is relatively little gore.  I would say that these two qualities are probably what got the series its “young adult” rating.

Stephenie Meyer puts an enticingly different twist on an old theme and creates a whole new genre from anything I have ever read before.  I like to think of it as horror romance.

I am finding it hard to find words to describe the characters.  I found myself so engrossed in the story, that it was almost like they were people I knew.  I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to them next.

Still can’t wait.  I read all three books that are out now and I have to wait until next May for the next installment.  Talk about torture.  I know…I know…Ridiculous!

Well, what can I say? I’m a sucker (no pun…yadda yadda) for a good old fashioned romance.  But really these books are so much more than that.

But you know what I have gone and done?  I have now built these books up so much that anyone who reads this and then reads the books will be sorely disappointed.

You know how that works.  I liked them so much, because for some reason that I can’t put my finger on, the storyline speaks to me.  Now when you read them, you won’t relate in the same way that I did, so now I’ve ruined them for you.

You know what?  I lied.  They suck (not to beat a dead horse-no pun, really!) Don’t read them.

But go ahead and read them anyway, now that I’ve piqued your curiousity.  Or maybe not.  Whatever.  Don’t read them….see if I care.

Disclosure:  This post was not paid for, by PayPerPost, Stephenie Meyer or her affiliates, her publisher or by anyone for that matter.  Which really bites!  (No pun intended.)
